  • "Dalia's Mixtape" - Finnish-Ukrainian conductor Dalia Stasevska delivers a convincing album of contemporary orchestral works that share her range of interests as both leader and listener. Julius Eastman's Symphony No. II - The Faithful Friend: The Lover Friend's Love for the Beloved is a highlight, the first commercially available recording of this work from the American iconoclast.
  • "Big Majestic" - This music from Pulitzer Prize-winning composer and sound artist Ellen Reid's public art project SOUNDWALK is a soothing concoction of ambient maximalism. The Kronos Quartet, tenor saxophone Shabaka Hutchings, and organist James McVinnie's collaborations add color to the full picture.
  • "Keel Road" - The Danish String Quartet's newest album is rooted in the traditional music of Northern Europe, demonstrating the group's knack for performing with real heart and soulful conviction. Here, the folk music ranges from doleful to joyous, and the listener gets the sense he or she is hearing a true sonic explanation of the players' identities.
  • "freezing" - Canadian-Italian singer Emily D'Angelo's second release with Deutsche Grammophon combines songs spanning five centuries, from John Dowland to Philip Glass. D'Angelo's inky mezzo and unique, genre-crossing arrangements make for a polished product well worth the listen.
  • "BLOOM" - The infectious rhythms of Michael Torke's piece Bloom come to life in the hands of Sandbox Percussion. Grooving syncopations and bitesize melodies interlock by way of hocket, always playful, always organic.
